Work-Flow-FAIL!
Here’s another letter I sent to the Best Camera team about potential features in a future release of the Best Camera app.
Hello again,
Just recently I’ve taken a liking to the square crop filter in my Best Camera app. But because I shoot most of my photos in landscape, I loose the side portions of my subject when applying the crop plus it seems to zoom in a little too….yikes! Since I already do a lot of post processing before importing images into Best Camera I figured I could just pre-crop the photos myself, but as it turns out cropping wasn’t my problem…..composition before capture was!
I went on the hunt for an iPhone app that would let me compose photos in a square crop format before capture. I found an app called “1X1 Camera” that lets you shoot, apply a 1X1 Square or Circle crop, then save to the camera roll. Applying the square crop with 1X1 Camera still trimmed the photo but it seemed minimal. I imported these images into Best Camera and tested the Best Camera square crop filter on them….the filter had no effect thus no loss of subject.
So, would you say that I successfully solved my problem? I would say yes…and no. Yes because I kinda took a picture in square format (not really), and “no” because I spent another $0.99 on another app and added more steps to the process just to get a simple photo to look the way I want…..Work-Flow-FAIL!
So I’m suggestion yet another feature for a future release of Best Camera. Add the ability to compose and capture images within the Best Camera app in square format. I dare you to add that feature. In fact…I double dog dare ya!
Thanks
